COMMENTS BY THE AUTHOR:
Deconstructing Pepperland: Multitracks and Artificial Isolations Of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

For all its reputation as a groundbreaking and influential album, relatively little in the way of outtakes from "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" has emerged through the years. Recently, however, actual multitracks from four songs came to light and reached wide distribution via the Purple Chick Deluxe Edition. This left quite a few tracks unaccounted for, but isolations and manipulations of 5.1 remixes from the Yellow Submarine DVD (Kaleidoscope) and Love (Loveology) and the Rockband video game have produced outfakes that isolate sole (or simply less) components of the rest. Often imperfect, with artifacts of other tracks (and in the case of Loveology, other SONGS) leaking in, they are nonetheless fascinating.

For me as a listener, however, the presentation leaves something to be desired, with the material grouped by source rather than era and a completist's unwillingness to discard the less gratifying reductions. So just for my own listening pleasure, I compiled this selection of Sgt. Pepper multitracks and artificial isolations in the running order of the original album, with just a few slight edits - removing some irrelevant material from the Loveology tracks, combining the Kaleidoscope rear channels into a less redundant stereo image. I threw in a few earlier bootlegged tracks and even a legitimately released Anthology track just to help the flow and complete the picture of this fascinating album. There's nothing here that hasn't made the rounds before, it's just my attempt to create a satisfying listen for the somewhat-but-not-totally-obsessive Pepper fan.
